The movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” Teaser: Namor is told to bring it by Shuri

In a brand-new teaser for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which Marvel unveiled today to mark the movie’s month-away release date, Shuri (Letitia Wright) issues this challenge. It’s an exciting, brief peek at the movie and gives us a few closer views at both the assumed villain, Namor, and some of the Wakandan heroes, including Shuri, M’Baku (Winston Duke), Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and newcomer Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) (Tenoch Huerta). This is who Shuri is referring to when she states that Namor and his sizable army, who are from the undersea nation of Talocan, believe that we are weak.

Why do we refer to Namor as a “presumed” villain? Because from what director and co-writer Ryan Coogler, the actors, and Tenoch Huerta have said about Namor, it seems more likely that he is an incredibly strong monarch of his own country fighting to defend his own people than than a villain. In the comics, Black Panther and Namor, one of Marvel’s original heroes, have fought alongside one another but also been allies. Namor is presented as the antagonist in the Wakanda Forever teasers and official trailer, but if you pay close attention to how the sequences are trimmed, you could find that the reality is far murkier. Ramonda is informed by Namor that “Wakanda will fall,” but we are not given any information as to why. Is there a caveat that Wakanda will collapse if we don’t hear it here? We believe it is probable.
